Project Description
There are several different options you can use to customize your map specifically to your needs. You can change the map type, add/remove the NOAA/USACE depth layer, and filter report pins and map icons.
Initially the map type is set to Standard, the NOAA/USACE depth layer is turned on, and all pins and icons are shown on the map.
Map Type
Just like on other navigational apps, you can choose from different map types (Standard, Satellite, Terrain or NOAA ENC). Core app functionality is the same across all map types.
If using the Standard map type, you can choose what mode you want – Auto, Day or Night. Using Auto will automatically switch the map to dark mode at night and light mode during the day.
Map Data
Choose Map Data from the main Map Options screen. This set of filter options allows you to filter what map data appears on your chart. Map data meaning buoys , marinas
, yacht clubs
, boat ramps
, restaurants & bars
, etc. Learn more about what icons are on your map here.
Toggle the various types of icons to the off position (grey) to hide them from your map.
Note: The Filter Alert will appear on the Map Options icon and next to Map Data if you have Buoys & Beacons or Restricted Areas toggled off.
Report Pins
Choose Reports from the main Map Options screen. This set of filter options allows you to filter the report pins that you see on your map.
Don’t know what a report pin is? Read our tutorial about Argo’s crowd-sourced reports to learn more.
Depth
Choose Depth from the main Map Options screen. You can also get to this screen by tapping the Depth Gauge on Argo’s Home screen .
The first and second toggles give you two options for displaying depth numbers on your map. The first pulls data from the NOAA ENC server. The second is our newly developed depth layer which is based on data from both NOAA and the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers (USACE).
The third and fourth toggles allow you to remove icons from Argo’s home screen. If you feel it’s too cluttered (or you don’t use these icons), remove the depth gauge or depth finder
here.
Lastly, you can decide what unit of measurement you want depth displayed in. The example has ‘feet’ selected.
Speed
Choose Speed from the main Map Options screen. You can also get to this screen by tapping the Speedometer on Argo’s Home screen .
Here you can choose whether you want the speedometer displayed on Argo’s home page. You can also set the unit of measurement you want the speedometer to display your speed in.
Boaters
Choose Boaters from the main Map Options screen.
Here you can choose whether you want to see other Argo users on your map. By default all users are shown on your map so long as they aren’t in private mode. Toggle Friends off to hide your friends’ icons from your map. Toggle Other Boaters off to hide other users’ icons from your map.
A user’s icon is only shown for one hour after they were last active within the Argo app. Learn more about who you can see on your map.
