At Argo, we build tools for people who take boating seriously. Whether that means planning safer routes, understanding fuel range, or staying connected offshore, our focus has always been on supporting real experiences on the water.
That is why we are excited to welcome Captain Trip Smith as a guest on our upcoming Argo Live livestream on May 14 at 7 PM EST.
Trip represents a type of boater we think about often when building Argo. He is independent, detail-oriented, and constantly operating in environments where good decisions matter. His experience brings together adventure and responsibility in a way that reflects how our community actually uses the platform.

A Lifetime on the Water
Trip’s connection to boating started early. Growing up around fishing boats, time on the water was part of everyday life. But even then, his goals extended beyond local waters.
“I always dreamed of cruising on a large boat to distant waters.”
That vision has shaped the path he has taken. Today, Trip is known for running long offshore routes, exploring remote areas, and working professionally as a chase boat captain for superyachts. His work requires not only skill at the helm, but also the ability to plan, adapt, and operate independently in changing conditions.
Why Trip Smith and Argo Are a Natural Fit
Trip is joining Argo Live because his approach to boating aligns closely with what Argo is built to support.
When you watch his content, it is clear that every trip involves constant decision-making. Distance to the next port, fuel consumption, weather changes, and route adjustments are always in play. These are not abstract concerns. They directly impact safety and success on the water.
That is exactly where Argo comes in.
“It helps me quickly determine distances to the next port. Plus, it gives me an estimate on fuel burn as well.”
For someone running long distances, especially solo, having fast and reliable access to that information is critical. Trip also highlighted another important part of the experience.
“I also like the social aspect of it where my family, friends, and followers can track me.”
Boating can be isolating, especially offshore. The ability to share your position and progress creates a connection point between the captain and everyone following along. Trip’s use of Argo reflects both sides of the platform, planning and connection.

Exploring Remote Destinations
Trip’s favorite boating destination is the Exumas in the Bahamas, a region known for its clear water, scattered islands, and relative isolation.
It is not a place you stumble into casually. Getting there requires planning, awareness, and confidence in your vessel and your decisions. That preference says a lot about his style of boating.
He is not chasing crowded marinas or predictable routes. He is drawn to places where preparation matters and where the reward is a more direct connection to the environment.

Endurance and Self-Reliance
Trip’s mindset extends beyond boating. One of his most notable personal experiences was completing a solo backpacking trip in the snow while fasting for over 60 hours.
That kind of challenge requires discipline, mental toughness, and the ability to stay calm under stress. Those same traits carry over directly to offshore boating, where conditions can change quickly and support is not always nearby.
This level of self-reliance is part of what makes his perspective valuable. It is not just about where he goes, but how he approaches the journey.
